Is it just me or does tv really, really suck these days? The West Wing has slid into obscurity for much of this season, though it was my favorite show for a long time. I think the jury is still out on the Sopranos, though it seems to have finally come back. Other than that, is there anything worth watching? Fox on Sunday has some good shows with the Simpsons (though long since past its prime), The War at Home (damn funny, especially Larry) and then the Family Guy.
Are there any other decent shows on tv anymore???
i agree. most of tv is just repeats at the moment. i'm sure there must be something on that's worth while though
The problem is a glossy well made show like TWW is expensive, where as endless repeats of the simpsons are cheap and popular with certain sections of society, who wouldn't know good tv if they fell over it. E.R was the only american show I'd watch due to it being far more about real people than big dramatic explosions which american tv is so fond of, but lately even E.R is sliding down that slope precarious of grabbing big ratings, by using OTT story lineswhen the writers have to try that hard you know the show is in trouble.
I don't watch much tv anymore. I love certain shows that have gone off the air. So I watch the reruns or the dvds. But I don't really like reality tv, and that's what, it seems, is on more and more. Even shows that I've loved in the past, suck as stargate sg1, have steadily gotten bad. I spend a lot of time reading now.
I agree that there are not many good shows on anymore. A lot of them are just reruns or they have too many timeslots for the same show throughout the day and night. This is especially true with the cartoons, but there are some regular shows that have this. The worst examples of this are Nicolodeon, Cartoon Network, WGN, and TBS. I remember when I was little, and how they used to have just one or two timeslots per day for each show, which meant a larger variety of shows. There are some shows today that I like, but as I mentioned, even those shows have too many timeslots. I say they should bring back some of the older shows and cartoons and fill in some of the extra time slots they have with those.
I think a lot of the cartoons nowadays are just pushing for children to collect their toys and games and their is nothing really to learn from most of them anymore. The majority of them are just fighting or too much like what children already deal with in real life, I mean like the language they use and the types of characters and exact situations that could resemble stuff they may already know in real life. So, at least to me, most of them are not even interesting even if you do learn something from them. I don't mind those kinds of real-life things in sit-coms or series shows, but in most cartoons, I'd rather them be like cartoons. Now one thing I don't mind are some of the reality shows and drama serieses because they only come on once a week, and some of them are both fun and educational to watch. So some of those I don't mind. And some of the sit-coms are alright too sometimes.
There aren't any good shows on anymore. I used to enjoy watching TV but have given it up almost entirely because there isn't anything on. The so called "reality" shows aren't real at all. The dramas are too gorry and the comedies are just plain dumb. I wish there were more shows like the older shows such as the original Law and Order or happy Days or something like them. But I guess I'm not in the majority. I'm an older viewer and I know the shows are geared to the young people who they think will buy their products. I think it's interesting that I've seen that many of you feel the same way. What do you think will happen in the future if this trend continues.
I haven't give un on TV entirely. We have Sky, but there aren't really that many channels for the ladies. It's mostly Soccer, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, high-profile police videos and old soaps, and us girlies're left with all the home make-over, medical dramas and baby programmes.
There is some good stuff on tv in the states, glenn beck, Don Imas, shapell show, bones, house has grown on me quite a bit lately, the simpsons, family guy, the war at home is pretty funny, that seventies show is okay. antiques road show, most things on the histiry channel, etc. I want to know what happened to the critic! With John lovits. That was a really good show. I do wish the majority of tv had more to offer substance wise. it's a drag. Not that I watch much tv, I tend to read or listen to music more.
yeah, but so many of those shows are either not making new ones (Chappelle) or the new ones suck (Simpsons). I love Extras, though unfortunately the 2nd season has just ended. I hated Studio 60 only because it wants to be the West Wing so badly, but its so overt and crap, but ugh, its slowly drawing me in...
I just stick to cartoons and Discovery Health because I can't stand reality TV shows. The Simpsons is pretty funny, and I can't even remember the last time I watched Family Guy.
Since a few weeks ago, we now have Digital TV, which I think is really cool. *smile* It feels good to have some other things worth watching now, I mean like a lot of the older shows and more educational shows. I've been watching Boomerang, which has many older shows like Captain Planet, Wacky Races, Perils of Penelope Pitstop, Pink Panther, Flinstones, Jetsons, and others. Once in awhile, I'll watch a newer show, and there are some today shows I like such as House and educational-type shows and cartoons. But I've mostly been sticking to the older cartoons and find them more interesting. It's not so much that I really remember watching them, some I do, but some I don't remember watching before until now. I guess it's that those cartoons were more like, cartoons and not some situation you'd find realistically. And if they did have real life situations, I feel like you could more get something out of it. I don't know, I just seem to enjoy those cartoons more than most of the newer ones.
I love the shows from the 70's happydays, welcome back Kotter, emergency and so much more. they just were more enjoy to me.
i know... scrubs is gone! that makes me cry ):
check out My Name is Earl, absolutely brilliant, brilliant show.
House is good too and I've heard Entourage is fun, although mainly a guys version of Sex and the City.
Plenty of excellent shows on Discovery, Aircrash Investigations, Trapped, Animal Planet has loads of really cool documentaries and National Geographic and the Travel Channel are both great, until they get into stupid Poker matches.
personally, I don't watch much tv at all either. Maybe a couple hours a week at the most and that's mostly sports. The shows that come on aren't like they used to be for sure, but I do sometimes put on tv land because they show older sitcoms like Sanford and Son which I like. I'm more into the 70's and 80's shows. The 90's and later, you can forget it and I definitely don't do reality shows. They're nothing but game shows that's all they are. Especially that American Idol trash. Most of those people can't sing for anything and they just know they can for some reason but yet they end up winning the thing.

Well I've found some shows worth watching now. Ghost whisperer is a good one. It just started season three on cbs friday nights at 8 eastern time. Another one I'm watching, even though it's over in the uk, is bad girls. It comes on logo thursday nights at ten. They're on series three right now. Also, sunday nights on pbs is mystery. That's pretty good. Right now they're showing the inspector Lynley Mysteries. Oh, and in 2008 comedy central will be picking up the futurama reruns and they will be showing the new movies that are going straight to dvd as several episodes. So some new futurama shows next year. That is, if you can't afford just to buy the movies when they come out. I believe the first will be released november of this year. Ok, I'm done for now, smile.
They sadly don't exist any more, because of this whole degeneration of our generation.
Wow, what to say about this. I keep asking myself about all the old nickelodeon cartoons that I use to watch when I was a kid, and how I can't find them anywhere, and others. I use to watch Fraggle Rock, muppet babies, the ninja turtles, some disney cartoons to, and others. Now it all just seems to be stupid, like who can kill someone with a lazer beam first, no more life learning lessons. So I agree with the other person who posted that earlier. I don't own a tv because it's too expensive, but I've seen house and I like it, and some other drama shows, even though I don't like drama in real life. I don't know of any new sitcoms, but I still watch the ones I use to love in the 80's and 90's. I still think documentaries are good though if I ever go to my parents house and see any lol. But yeah, it would be nice to have a cable company that would show all the good stuff, instead of satilite since I heard it's not accessible anyway. So that's my take on it. Just seems when you're younger, tv is good, then when you get older, it sucks. Or maybe everyone's just running out of ideas. Who knows.
I couldn't agree more. TV sucks these days. Oh I like House and Law and Order: SVU, but all the shows I really liked are off the air or repeated so often that you get sick of them. I liked Charmed, the Cosby Show, You Can't Do That on Television, and, perhaps in pride of place, Rescue 911.
Yeah. TVreallysucks. We are getting rid of cable becausetheonlyone who watches it is Nathaniel and it's starting to become an addiction to him. Which, to me if youcan sit and watch half of Dora but can't sit still for a story, then the TV has got to go. The only thing I watch on TV is The Doctors and sometimes The View. My husband has a couple of favorites too, but nothing that makes himrun to the TV everyday to watch it.
For the first time in a few years, I have made it a point to watch some of the new shows this fall on the four major networks. I like Flash Forward on ABC, The Good Wife on CBS, and Glee on Fox. I'm also interested in watching the first episode of Three Rivers tonight. For me, watching four prime time shows every week is a lot. In addition I still watch House and a couple other older shows.
Well House I like but that's it. Well and BIg Bang Theory on CBS, but I don't watch it religiously. I haven't watched TV religiously since Rescue 911 went off the air.
The boxing wasn't bad last night. That Fury (the first 1) was a cheating bar stuard. The Football League Show would have been better if they took our match and the L666ds match out.
CNN's global news show at 9 PM isn't bad. Yesterday should get some new programmes. BBC Three's adult season was interesting.
Another new show I like, after one episode, is called The Forgotten. If I continue watching all these shows every week I'll be busy and not on the computer much in the evenings. But if I lose interest in them, which I usually do and which is also why I often don't even bother trying new shows in the fall, then I'll be looking for other things to do.
personally i love shows that have to do with real life. i am a big non fiction reader and a big nonfiction tv watcher. dirtiest jobs starts its new season tonight yeha!!!! i think it is great that people who don't punch a computer keyboard all day or are market execs or whatever get their time to shine. deadliest catch is another great show although the sword fishing show discovery put on after the end of its season sucked. all the boats had names that were too similar and i got to confused. since I get up at 4:00 in the morning that's not hard to do with me at 9:00 pm. I also like trauma life in the er but wish they'd make some new ones. also modern marvels, mystery diagnosis, dr. g. and a host of others like that are wonderful.
I don't like the term reality tv as that makes me think of survivor and the bachelor which have as much to do with my realife as a bicycle does to a fish. The only fiction show that I am even tempted to watch is house but I don't know when it comes on and keep forgetting to find out.
If I want to escape in to aworld of fiction I read a good book. Much better writing.
That's why I liked Rescue 911 so much. Real people and real emergencies. It had a lot of valuable, life-saving information. Granted the CPR on that show is now out of date so they'd have to update it if they brought the show back. But the shows they have on now that are supposed to be similar just don't cut the cracker for me.
the difference between 911 and a lot of other shows is that william shatner or whoever did the actual interviewing, had a way of making us relate to the characters. empathy is the most important part of a good show like that. a lot of these new reality offerings can't or don't take the time to build the vents us care about the characters.
Yep, it was Shatner. And I agree. He had a way of making us feel for the victims or, in the rare cases involving stupid would-be criminals, making us laugh at their stupidity. One instance in particular was when a guy tried to break into an elderly couple's house right after Christmas. The twist was that he tried to get in via the chimney like Santa Claus but got stuck hanging head downward in the fireplace. There were also a few where burglars broke into businesses and somehow got trapped inside and had to call the cops so they could get out.
I'm actualy a fan of comedy shows, such as two and a half men, the big bang theory. Most of the things I watch are off the air now like friends, home improvement. I do like medium, law and order: SVU or CI, and CSI Miami, but I HATE (note the all caps), reality TV shows. They are scripted, and so fake its not even funny.
I forgot to mention this in my last post, but for any cartoons, I usually just watch dubbed anime.
The only 2 shows I really watch are Dexter and South Park, both of which just started new seasons, so I'm happy. Less often I'll watch Family Guy, and a couple shows on the discovery health channel. i actually forgot about Trauma, life in the ER until it was mentioned, but now that you mention it, I wish they would show some new ones too. I believe there was also a similar one called paramedics which was pretty cool. I also totally agree that cartoons today are pure crap. If I ever have kids, I won't subject them to anything like Hannah Montant or Dora the explorer or anything else taht's around today. i just think they're stupid.
I know Rescue 911 was on DIscovery Health for a while, but it hasn't aired anywhere in the US in about four years. That really made me mad. And I'd say this new millennium has already provided more than enough material for a new Rescue 911 provided they didn't screw it up, which they very well might.
oh i didn't know south park was still on. it is one of my son't favorites. since he has gotten married and moved out i forget to watch it.
i am a fan of allot of sitcoms and Law and Order SVu is good too. i am not a fan of the Reality Tv shows iether, i just dont find them interesting. Discovery Health has some good shows sometimes though.
Omg tv sucks these days, i was trying to find something to watch, and there was nothing on
In situations like Ithat I just log onto Youtube and go watch old Rescue 911 segments. That was back when some TV was actually worth watching.
for anyone who wants to watch old you can't do that on television episodes, You can go to www.barthsburgery.com And download them. Also they have a 5 disk dvd set, with afew episodes on them, And they also have dvd roms with all the episodes. I emailed barth, And asked hem if they were going to release the sow on dvd, And he told me that they were, But that they couldn't because viacom now owns the writes to the show. But even tho I'm 28 years old, I really like that show, It brings back alot of memories. When I watch the show now, I relate to the adults on the show more. But the funny thing is, I never watched it alot as a kid, But I wish they would put it back on Nickelodeon. Also does any one no where I can download some episodes of rescue 911?
oh i agree, tv nowadays is no good at all. it's all repeats.
and, we still get rescue 911 in england on a channel called reality, so yay for us.
is there a site where I can download some episodes of rescue 911? Or maybe even a season of the show?
No unfortunately. Your best bet is to go watch them on Youtube. They've got a whole bunch of them. Of course I don't know if it's possible to download videos from Youtube. I do that a lot myself, go watch them when I've got nothing better to do...which is most of the time since I'm currently unemployed.
remember watching Its a Miricle and Miricle Pets isn't on any more.
Downloading from YouTube is possible with the Free YouTube to mp3 converter. It's a great little program.
all tv this day is crap crap crap, and i have to wade through shit to find anything good these days.
tv today sucks. only stuff worth watching is like the history channel or national geographic. they're good. The learning and discovery channels used to have the same sort of stuff that history and NatGeo have on, but all they are now is reality, history is very little of that, except for ice road truckers, haven't seen in a while, pawn stars, actually educational, and this logging one, other then that... that's all that's worth watching.
there's a good show on at the moment on watch, it's called scream if you know the answer, and is set on roller coatster in thorpe park england.
hmm, cool. but idk if we have that channel.
it's like since the late 90s everything has gone down hill
well except cops and amarica's most wanted. those at least have stayed the same and are still good to watch.
Honestly, since COLD CASE based the 'Flashover' episode on the case of executed Texas death row Cameron Todd Willingham I don't even enjoy watching that show any more. The only reality show I enjoy is DR G MEDICAL EXAMINER, and I just haven't felt like sitting down and watching much TV lately. If my husband sold it tomorrow it would suit me just fine, I'd just pocket the cash & put it in my IRA.
hmm, law and order SVU is the same, but still interesting, 24, well you've seen one season you've seen them all, idle, i only watch some of the auditions and the fanily, and not even that at times.
Well as for the YouTube to MP3 converter, I don't like it at all. I've never been able to get it to work properly. I give it the URL for a video and it acts as though it's downloading it, but it gets to a certain percentage and then just stops. Oh it says the download was a success but there's no file. I'll use Klango for that.
